Few options for OCD treatment

Medication; It is important to select a reputed medical expert who will suggest the required  medicines. These medicines increase the level of serotonin in the brain which helps to reduce anxiety

Psychotherapy; This is one of the most effective methods of treating OCD. One to one individual sessions or group sessions are conducted by psychotherapists. The patient is exposed gradually to   his fear of obsession. But at the same time he is not advised to stop any repetitive activities. Over a period of time the patient becomes less anxious as he realizes that not indulging in habitual activities do not yield any negative consequences.
  • Clinicians also use relaxation therapy as a mode of treatment. Lot of stress is laid on self talk and self instruction. The self talk helps the person to get out of the pattern of repetitive activities.

  • Exposure response prevention ; This  is  a popular therapy in which the patient is exposed  directly to anxiety provoking circumstances
  • Hypnotism; the hypnotist tries to eliminate ritualistic behavior through direct instructions.
  • Cognitive therapy
Self Help Programs;

This is a unique approach for OCD treatment. The self help programs are designed to directly instruct the victims of this disorder to alter their way of thinking and address their symptoms directly in a safe manner. Many professions highly approve of self help programs and strongly believe that this is an effective way to handle this disorder. The program is tailored as per the specific requirements of the victim. People who have overcome this disorder generally assist in designing self help programs. Thus they possess enough personal experience and in-depth knowledge regarding typical symptoms.

All these therapies form an important part of OCD treatment and they offer benefits in varied ways. But treating OCD takes a lot of time since the obsessions are deeply ingrained in the mind and the patient finds it extremely difficult to get out of its shackles
